Post-Op & Recovery

The patient is under a light general anesthesia, sedating the patient enough so that they are asleep. They cannot feel anything and will not remember the surgery, but recovery is rapid and the anesthesia wears off very quickly.

There will be little swelling of the knee and some pain or discomfort after the anesthetic wears off. Swelling may last for a few days. Pain or discomfort can be controlled with Tylenol or similar pain reliever.

Patients are encouraged to begin to move their knee as quickly as possible after the procedure. As the swelling subsides, mobility will increase significantly. Within four to seven days after the procedure, the patient should have all of their motion back and have minimal swelling and discomfort.
